No selling fee on either
Vinted charges nothing to upload an item or to sell it. eBay charges a UK private seller no final value fee on most items, gives 300 free listings a month and charges £0.35 for each after that. Two exceptions on eBay: posting abroad costs you a 3% international fee (£0.71 on the £20 item with its postage), and cars, motorcycles and other vehicles are not free to sell.
The buyer’s fee, side by side
eBay’s Buyer Protection fee has a set formula: £0.10 plus 7% of the first £20, 4% up to £300 and 2% up to £4,000. Vinted gives a range, usually 3% to 8% plus £0.30 to £0.80. On £10: eBay £0.80, Vinted £0.60 to £1.60. On £50: eBay £2.70, Vinted £1.80 to £4.80. On £100: eBay £4.70, Vinted £3.30 to £8.80. On £300: eBay £12.70, Vinted £9.30 to £24.80. eBay’s rate falls as the price rises, so on dearer items its fee sits near the bottom of Vinted’s range.
Postage on each
On Vinted the buyer chooses and pays for postage at checkout. On eBay you set the postage, the buyer pays it to you, and you buy the label, so what you charge and what you pay can differ. Neither platform takes a fee on a private seller’s postage. Put your postage into the calculator to see what you keep on each.
Selling as a business
Business sellers on eBay pay a final value fee by category, a per-order fee and a 0.35% regulatory operating fee: £3.51 on the £20 item with its postage in eBay’s “everything else” category. Our Vinted figures cover private sellers only, so for a business this page shows eBay’s side and Vinted’s private-seller side. Check Vinted’s own terms for business sellers.
