What fees does Etsy take on each sale?
Three fees, each on a different base. The listing fee of $0.20 is paid when you list (and again when a listing renews or sells another one). The transaction fee of 6.5% is on the item price, postage and gift wrap, but for US sellers never on sales tax. The payment processing fee is on the whole payment, sales tax included: 3% + $0.25 for a US bank account.
On a $30 item with $5 postage and 7% sales tax, those come to $3.85, and you receive $31.15.
What are Etsy Offsite Ads fees?
Etsy advertises some listings on other sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and then buys, Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee: 15% of the order for shops that made under $10,000 in the past year, or 12% for larger shops (who cannot opt out). It never passes $100 an order. Choose it in the calculator when a sale came from an ad.
What is different for UK shops?
Payment processing for a UK bank account is 4% + £0.20, and a regulatory operating fee of 0.48% is added on the item price and postage. The listing fee is still set in US dollars ($0.20), so it varies a little in pounds. Etsy also charges VAT on its fees to UK sellers; we could not read the rate on Etsy’s pages, so that VAT is not included yet.
Is there a fee to open an Etsy shop?
Etsy’s help page says some new shops pay a one-time set-up fee whose cost “varies by location”. It does not give the amount, so this fee is not included yet in the calculator. We will add it once Etsy’s own page states it.
