How much does Square charge?
It depends on how the card is taken and, in the US, on your plan. On Square Free: 2.6% + 15¢ in person, 3.3% + 30¢ online or by invoice, and 3.5% + 15¢ for a typed-in card or card on file. A $50 tap-to-pay sale costs $1.45. Square Plus ($49 a month per location) and Premium ($149) lower the in-person rate to 2.5% and 2.4%, and online to 2.9% + 30¢.
And in the UK?
1.75% in person; 1.4% + 25p online for UK cards (2.5% + 25p for cards from elsewhere); 2.5% for typed-in cards, cards on file, Virtual Terminal and invoices. Cards issued outside the UK add 1.5% in person and when typed in.
Is a paid Square plan worth it?
Plus saves 0.1 of a percentage point on in-person sales against Free, so on the in-person rate alone it needs $49,000.00 of in-person card sales a month to cover its $49. Most small sellers choose a plan for its features, not its rate.
