Amazon charges a referral fee by category on the total price, postage included (15% in most categories, at least $0.30 an item), plus either $0.99 per item on the Individual plan or $39.99 a month on Professional. In the UK the plans cost £0.75 a unit or £25 a month, before VAT.

How do Amazon seller fees work?

Every sale pays a referral fee: a percentage of the total price the buyer pays, including postage and gift wrap. The rate depends on the category, and most categories have a least fee per item. Some rates fall above a set price (Furniture: 15% up to $200; 10% on portion over $200), and a few change with the price (Clothing and Accessories: 5% if $15.00 or less; 10% if over $15.00 up to $20.00; 17% if over $20.00).

A $25 Home and Kitchen item with $5 postage on the Individual plan pays $5.49 in fees, leaving $24.51. Media items (books, music, video, software, DVDs) also pay a closing fee of $1.80 each.

Individual or Professional plan?

Individual costs $0.99 per item sold; Professional costs $39.99 a month whatever you sell. They cost the same at about 40.4 items a month. At 40 sales a month, Individual costs $39.60 and Professional $39.99, so Individual is still $0.39 cheaper. From 41 sales a month, Professional wins, and it also unlocks tools that Individual sellers do not get.

What does this calculator not cover?

Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) fees for picking, packing and storage, which depend on the item’s size and weight; Amazon has its own calculator for those. Our figures are for orders you post yourself. In the UK, Amazon’s plan prices are before VAT.

How much does Amazon take per sale?

The referral fee for the category (15% in most) on the price plus postage, plus $0.99 per item on the Individual plan. A $20 item in Everything Else pays $3.99 in all.

Is the Amazon Professional plan worth it?

Once you sell more than about 40 items a month. At 40 a month Individual costs $39.60 against $39.99. In the UK they meet at about 33 units (£0.75 each against £25 a month).

Does Amazon charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The referral fee is on the total price the buyer pays, which includes postage and gift wrap.

What is the minimum Amazon referral fee?

Most US categories charge at least $0.30 an item and most UK categories at least £0.25. Some, such as video games, have no minimum. The category table below shows each one.

Does this include FBA fees?

No. Fulfilment by Amazon fees depend on size and weight. This calculator is for orders you post yourself.

The plan prices are before VAT, as Amazon’s UK page shows them. We show them the same way.
